These Copycat Olive Garden Breadsticks are garlicky, light, and fluffy, with a crisp outside. They taste just like the ones you get at Olive Garden, but you can now make them at home!
After posting Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscana soup a few weeks ago, you might begin to think Zach and I have an Olive Garden addiction. And you would probably be right. It’s okay. We have nothing to hide.Unless you have never been there {Yeah, those people exist}, you probably understand what is so appealing about this delicious Italian food chain. When we go there for lunch, I almost always get their soup and salad option. Partly because it’s cheap, partly because it’s delicious, but mostly because it’s bottomless. #girlscaneattoo When we go for dinner, I usually play it safe and get their Fettuccine Alfredo. I love that stuff so much and it also makes for really great leftovers
The one thing that I can’t leave Olive Garden without eating though, is their breadsticks. Holy toledo, they definitely have the best breadsticks I’ve ever had in my life. Ask anyone. They’ll agree. They’re soft, but crispy when you bite into them and that hint of garlic tops it all off. It’s no wonder i eat at least four every time we go there. After trying numerous times to recreate them, I think I finally did it! Try this and let me know what you think.
Olive Garden Breadsticks
These breadsticks are garlicky, light, and fluffy, with a crisp outside. They taste just like the ones you get at Olive Garden, but you can now make them at home!
Prep Time 2 hours 45 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 2 hours 55 minutes
Servings 12
Ingredients
- 1 cup hot water {105-115ºF.}
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 2 tsp. active dry yeast
- 2 & 1/2 - 3 cups bread flour
- 1 &1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup {1/2 stick} salted butter softened
- Topping:
- 3 Tbsp. salted butter melted
- 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
Instructions
-
In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in the water and let sit for 5 minutes, until top becomes foamy.
-
In your stand mixer bowl {or regular large bowl}, combine 2&1/2 cups flour and the salt. Using the paddle attachment {or a good ol' fashioned mixing spoon}, mix the softened butter into the flour until well combined.
-
Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and use your dough hook and knead for about 8 minutes. Dough may be sticky, so if you need to, add a little bit more flour, until it stops sticking to the sides. Don't add more than 1/2 cup though.
-
Place the dough in a covered container and let sit for 1&1/2 hours, until doubled in size.
-
Once the dough has doubled, measure out 2 oz. portions of dough and roll each one into sticks that are about 7 inches long.
-
Place the dough sticks onto baking sheets and cover and let sit for 1 hour, until doubled in size again.
-
Preheat oven to 400ºF.
-
Bake the breadsticks for 10 minutes, or until just beginning to lightly brown.
-
Combine the melted butter and garlic salt and just after the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them with the butter mixture, using a pastry brush.

These were spot on! Thank you so much for all the effort you put in to create such a phenomenal recipe!

These are amazing! My whole family loves them..which means I’d like to keep them on hand to have at any time. Can these be frozen at any point so that I can just bake them up when ready? Or do I have to bake first then freeze?
Lori Fehr says
I made these last night. They were delicious! I should have used 2 baking pans. I rolled out the dough in one large rectangle and portioned with a pizza cutter. Then rolled each portion like a mini French loaf. Thanks for the inspiration:) 5 stars.

Can this be put in the freezer. I would like to make them a head of a birthday party we are having. I will not have time to do these a couple of days before. So I would like todo them tomorrow.
Lisa says
These were very nummy! Turned out well. Great directions for a first time from scratch, bread maker. The only thing I did wrong was my water was too hot and the yeast wouldn’t activate. So I started over with just warm water.
Tiffany says
These taste just like, if not better, than Olive Garden’s breadsticks themselves!
Aly says
He outcome is super tasty but I can never get the dough to rise. I’ve tried three times a dough just will not rise at all. Because of that the bread ends up being really dense but it tasted so good and everyone went back for a third bread stick!
Dinah says
These come out beautifully each time I make them. Thanks for the recipe, I’m wearing it out!
Cheryl says
I made these and they are fantastic! I put the extras in a freezer bag and I oull out a few as I need then. wrap in a slightly dampened paper towel and microwave for about 12-15 seconds. taste just like freshly baked. it’s my go to recipe now!
