Hello and welcome to this week’s Work It Wednesday!
I had a nap today, the baby is sleeping right now, and Zachary is currently rubbing my feet. I’d say it’s been a pretty good day. Now, if only tonight could go as well, I’d be one happy mama! I know it’s pretty common, but has anybody else had problems with their babies getting their days and nights mixed up?? I can’t keep Adelaide awake long enough to get a full feeding for the life of me during the day, but once it’s time to go to bed, I almost can’t do anything to get her to go to sleep! It’s a little bit tiring to say the least. I’d love to hear what any of you mamas did to remedy a situation like this! Other than that, we are sure enjoying loving on this little babe. We haven’t had much more to think about honestly, so I’m sorry for the absence on the good ol’ blog. Maybe this cute picture will help make up for it?

Nothing melts my heart more than seeing this guy love on his little girl. From the looks of it, I think she’s pretty fond of him too. 😉
Anyway, let’s get onto the par-tay, shall we? The most viewed link from last week’s party was:
Lemon Pie Bars from Julie’s Eats and Treats
And rightly so, because these look and sound absolutely delicious! I could go for a pan of them right about now. Thanks Julie! Now, for my favorite links, they are:
Tips for Seed Starting from Back to the Basics
Handmade Bows from And Who Says You Can’t
Updated Old Brass Doorknobs from Love, Pomegranate House
Brownie Truffle Peanut Butter Blossoms from Love to be in the Kitchen
DIY Maternity Hospital Gown from Sweet Haute
Thank you everyone for participating in Work It Wednesday! Everything look so great! If you were featured, be sure to grab yourself a featured button here! Now…let’s get down to the nitty gritty. All I ask is that you remember 3 simple rules:

my niece was the same way about days & nights. our visiting nurse told us to be sure & have plenty of light during the day & not so much @ night ( my bro was a little weird about blinds closed during the day for the sake of preserving furniture…). I made sure blinds were open during the day, & suggested they use lamps ( @ night) instead of the overhead light fixture. it did seem to help congrats & good luck!

First of all, congrats on your new little one! Sleep when your baby sleeps – that’s the best advice I ever got. It can mean less time with your husband for a little while, but it also means you getting the rest you need. Babies do not come out knowing which way is up or down or day or night. She probably was lulled to sleep inside of you with all your movements during the day, that she came out at night to kick and play.
If her cord stump has fallen off, a warm bath right before nursing to sleep might help her sleep longer for a couple hours at nighttime or try infant massage. My babies did not sleep for more than 2-3 hours at a stretch at night until toddlerhood. This is why we co-sleep. It’s much easier for me to not get out of bed to nurse when they wake up at night.
I wasn’t sure after reading your intro for her if you were able to breastfeed or not. I don’t know how to formula feed a baby, but I’m an expert in breastfeeding because with 3 kids, I’ve been doing it for more than 10 years. So I’ll tell you what worked for me and try to give you some tips. If you’re not nursing, just ignore me.
If she’s sleepy when nursing, try to undress her to just a diaper, rub her head a little as she nurses, talk to her, pick up her hands and play with them, pick her up, put her on your shoulder, and pat her back until she wakes — just little annoying gentle things to keep her awake. Can you hear her nursing and swallowing? Breastfed babies eat often because it’s digested so quickly unlike formula. The best thing for success for your milk supply and your baby is to not have a schedule, just nurse when she wants it, unless it’s not enough. At this point, you should be nursing every 2-3 hours.
It is perfectly normal to nurse and then have to nurse again 45 minutes later for 3 days straight sometimes. It will drive you insane, but it’s necessary for growth spurts. When they do that, it’s not because they are not getting enough, it’s because they are increasing your milk supply for their growing body. Perfectly normal. And, based on when she was born, it looks like she’s about to enter the 3 week growth spurt. There are growth spurts that happen around 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, etc. You will sometimes spend an entire weekend literally ONLY nursing all day and all night, but after a few days it’s over.
My favorite breastfeeding book is So That’s What They’re For. It is very funny, but it’s also very helpful and educating. And, if you have any questions about breastfeeding or even to vent about the frustrations of it, feel free to email me stephanickety (at) yahoo (dot) com. I love to help other moms have success at breastfeeding because it’s hard.
Good luck with your sweet little girl. She’s beautiful!

I love that picture! Isn’t it funny how much more you love your spouse when you see them holding your baby? Love, love, love! Thank’s for hosting the party – try to get some rest when you can, ok?
Also – yes, my daughter slept all day long, and was ready to “party” at night. It took forever for her to find the right times, but she did it. Don’t worry – it will work out!

The day/night mix-up is the worst. I found that the more you try and fix it, the more they fight it. If you just try and roll with it, they’ll start adjusting. In the mean time, take advantage of every chance you get to nap– and don’t feel guilty, you need it! I love the cute picture. Oh, and I think Addi Averett is the cutest name ever 🙂

Your daughter is beautiful….what I used to do is bathe them at nite just before bedtime and feed them and they seem to sleep better…..try that and see if it works 🙂
