My family basically has the same thing for Christmas Eve dinner every single year, to include this Party Slush, and I love it. Although, we did try ribs for a couple years, I think most of us liked sticking to the basics more – ham, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, funeral potatoes, rolls, and asparagus. In fact, Zachary and I aren’t going home for Christmas this year, so I am making this exact same dinner for Christmas Eve. I was talking to a friend of mine that lives a couple hours away and she said her and her husband weren’t going home either, so I talked them into coming and having Christmas Eve dinner with us. I can’t. freaking. wait. Ironically enough, this is the same friend that was so kind as to invite Zachary and I over for Christmas Eve dinner last year in California, when for the first time, we wouldn’t be spending it with our families. I’m so glad I can return her the favor!
Anyway, out of all the delicious food we have for Christmas, I have to admit that my favorite part of the dinner would actually be the drink. And by drink, I actually mean this Party Slush. The recipe for it comes from my mom’s college roommate way back when and the only time we ever have it is for Christmas. It’s the one thing I look forward to most every year at dinner. You can even ask my mom. She knows I am a Party Slush addict. You can’t really blame me, though. It’s absolutely delicious!!
We’ve always made it in a used ice cream bucket, but I found this year, that it’s just as easy to do it in a 4 quart bowl. Also, if your bowl is a little bigger than 4 quarts {like mine was}, just put four quarts of water in it and mark the line with a marker. You’re going to need to know where four quarts is, so make sure the line stays.
Party Slush
This Party Slush is my favorite drink and brings back the best Christmastime memories!
Ingredients
- 2 pkgs Cherry Kool-Aid
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup orange juice concentrate thawed
- 14 cups Water
- Sprite
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine the Kool-Aid, sugar, orange juice, and water.
-
Stir until all ingredients are well combined.
-
Freeze for 24-48 hours.
-
Break apart frozen slush {I use a knife} and place in individual cups.
-
Add enough sprite to your liking and enjoy.
I may or may not have drank a cup of this for breakfast this morning. Don’t judge. Hopefully there will be enough left for Christmas Eve dinner tomorrow! What’s on your menu?
