So, I know this is kind of different from my normal recipes, but bear with me. As most of you know, we’ve got an 11 week old babelet in our house right now. Which means that I’ve been breastfeeding for that 11 weeks. Well, two weeks ago, when it felt like I had basically dried up {if ya know what I mean}, I kind of panicked. To say the least. I didn’t want to use formula because umm, hello! That costs money. I looked everywhere for help on how to up my supply to be able to keep feeding my little miss. I found this recipe in a breastfeeding support group on Facebook and I had to try it out. I am now a believer on what they can do!
If you or anyone you know is breastfeeding and think you might be losing your milk supply in any way, you have got to try these! They’re amazing. And for those of you that aren’t breastfeeding {which I have a feeling that’s a lot of you} feel free to try them anyway. Because these babies have become mine and Zachary’s new favorite cookie!
Breastfeeding Cookies
Makes about 3 dozen
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp. flaxseed meal {or linseed can be used}
- 4 Tbsp. water
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 cups self rising flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2-6 Tbsp. Brewer’s Yeast {This is the active ingredient, so the more the better. I used about 3 Tbsp. and it worked great!}
- 3 cups quick oats
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375ÂşF.
- Mix together the flaxseed and water and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cream together the butter and sugars.
- Add eggs one at a time and mix well.
- Add flaxseed mix and vanilla.
- In a medium bowl, combine together flour, baking soda, salt, Brewer’s Yeast, and oats.
- Add to the butter mixture 1/2 cup at a time.
- Once the dough is mixed together well, add chocolate chips.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes.
I hope this helps any of you breastfeeding mamas out there! Just remember to keep calm and breastfeed on. 🙂

I may just have to try these. They sound way better than popping fenugreek every day.

These are awesome. I have a 12-month-old and we’re still nursing. However, the older he gets, the more the supply dwindles. Pinned!

Oh my goodness! When I saw these I thought they were cookies made with breastmilk! Hahahaha! Not that there is anything wrong with that…. But hahaha… it made me go o.O These look and sound amazing! Even though I’m not breastfeeding I may have to try them out. 🙂

Ooh I can’t wait to try these. I have an 8 week old little girl and I feel like my milk is starting to slow down! Bring on the cookies!

these are great! I’d encourage you to go to a LLL meeting in your area 🙂 Most babies hit growth spurts at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months. That means in about a week, you’re going to feel like you’re losing your supply again. Cookies like this are a great help with all the good galactalogues. But the best thing you can do is just nurse nurse nurse! It’s all supply and demand :o) If you’re ever interested in sharing your experiences as a new nursing mom…LMK! I am a contributing editor for LLLUSA’s Magazine called New Beginnings.

These look great! I’m nursing and pumping for my 12 week old and sometimes I feel like I’m not getting what I used to. I take fenugreek every day, but these cookies look delicious! I think I’ll make a batch tomorrow 🙂

i have made these twice, once with 4 Tbs yeast then with 6 Tbs yeast. they taste great! I also added walnuts. The first time I saw a small increase in my milk production so I am hoping the extra yeast will really amp it up! Thank you for the recipe

You’re welcome! I’m so glad you were able to see a difference. At the very least, they taste pretty great in my opinion. Haha Good luck with your breastfeeding journey! It’s a roller coaster, but oh so rewarding. 🙂

Have you ever frozen these?
highheelsandgrills says
I haven’t…but I would imagine then would freeze great. If you try it, let me know how it goes! 🙂

I recently got a job as a nanny to an adorable baby girl, so I’m pinning this recipe just in case her mom ever feels like her milk production is slowing down. Plus, I’m sure I’ll be chowing down on these as well since they sound so yummy!! I’m wondering, though, where do you buy your brewer’s yeast?
highheelsandgrills says
How fun! I hope this helps her if she needs it! I bought brewer’s yeast tablets at Walmart and then crushed them up with rolling pin in a bag. I have had people tell me you can find the powder at Walmart and other grocery stores too, but they only had the tablets at mine. 🙂
Suzette says
OMG…..sooooo fun!!! Thanks! I’m going to check Target and my local grocery stores first as I try to avoid going to Walmart as much as possible. Fingers crossed…..LOL!!
JDennis says
You can find powdered brewers yeast at most health food stores (I heard GNC carries it) or if you have a sprouts or whole foods they should have it too, it’s in the supplement section. I got mine at sprouts! They do help, I made them a few weeks ago and after a few days I got my supply back. We are going through a growth spurt and my little one is demanding more than I can supply so I’m trying everything right now so we can avoid supplementation. Good luck ang enjoy!
Krista says
I think at GNC wellness stores or I got mine from Amazon!
Amy says
can the flaxseed by substituted?
highheelsandgrills says
I would just omit it.

These r Great I am eating some right know and they r so easy to make. I was feeding my LO so I told my 6 yr old what to put in and when and she made the cookies.
Kayla B says
Can’t wait to try these! I do have quick question…is flaxseed meal just flaxseeds that are finely ground up?? Sorry if that’s a totally dumb question!
Vanessa says
Just made these – super easy and yummy. Cookies = milk -> the best combination 🙂
Tiffany Smith says
I don’t have brewers yeast, can i make the cookies without it?
highheelsandgrills says
The brewer’s yeast is key in helping to increase your milk production. The cookies will still turn out great without it, but you may not see as great of results if you are trying to boost your supply is all!
